Experience the clockmaking trade—its history and slow decline—through the lives of Los Angeles-based clockmaker, Jesus Pantoja, and his teacher, Nikolas Pliagas.
This short film is the first of a potential documentary series, Art of the Lost Trades. Each episode will take an intimate look at the lives of craftspeople as they pursue and hold onto trades that are dying. As the series explores the personal stories of experts in their field practicing their craft—clockmakers, cobblers, blacksmiths—and the history of their trade, it will also tackle the issues of corporatization, homogenization, the loss of individuality in the modern world, and the environmental and social impact of overconsumption.
